If you would like to try fly fishing in the sea, there are some exciting opportunities to be found, with methods and flies just a little bit different to those in use within conventional fly fishing. I can help you to tie the flies that will catch and take you to some great spots to try, though you might have to get up a little early in the morning for the best of the sport to be had!
Whether it be beachcasting, light legering, mulleting, LRF (Light Rock Fishing), HRF (Hard...) or congering, I can guide you to places where you are likely to catch. If you have chest waders, I can add in spots like the Teign, where wading for the bass is particularly enjoyable, and I have contacts amongst the local charter boats where I can arrange for a day's fishing afloat. The charge for this will, however, vary according to what you want to try and what boats are available. Please let me know your requirements - in plenty of time since boat positions tend to fill very quickly - and I will work out the cost of a package and come back to you.

Background
As with all professional coaches, I am DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) checked to offer peace of mind for working with children but I was also a teacher for over twenty years before starting my own business. I have always enjoyed working with young people and find that my light tackle approach to sea angling tends to bring out the best in them in terms of interest and enjoyment.
For anyone interested in light tackle, it is a style of fishing that is close to my heart. I wrote the books 'The Challenge of Light Tackle' and 'Why Sea Fishing with Lighter Tackle Rocks' to celebrate my love of it and my knowledge has continued to grow ever since.
Whether you have a hankering after pole fishing in the sea, LRF (Light Rock Fishing), fly fishing or several other techniques designed to gain maximum enjoyment from each of the fish that you catch, you will find that there is somewhere in Torbay or its neighbours to practice it. If I can help you to improve both your knowledge and your skills while you do, then it would be my pleasure to do so.
Fly Fishing in the Sea
Another favourite of beginners, especially youngsters, is pole fishing, a highly entertaining method which can see some great catches from places that you would not expect. I have experimented with poles for years and found that both adults and children love it, catching fish of all sizes and across quite a range of species, like the three pounds wrasse shown in the photograph, just one of a haul of dozens of fish between three younger anglers.

Sea Fishing
This is the favourite method of many anglers and is invaluable for Winter and night fishing. There are a multitude of tackles available, which I am not only very comfortable with but also the designer of several in common use. Combined with good casting which, as an Angling Trust Coach Educator, I have trained many coaches in, this is a go-to method for most anglers at one point or another in the year. It can be used to target a number of locations and species and can provide a lot of fun when the fish are around. It may not be as sporting as some of the light tackle methods available but it is the bread and butter of sea fishing as far as many anglers are concerned.

Other Styles of Sea Fishing
In addition to these methods of sea fishing, I am well-versed in all forms of UK sea fishing, from float fishing - including ISO Tsuri, an ultralight float fishing method with spectacular fights - to LRF (light Rock Fishing), which is designed to catch a variety of species from spots that are otherwise difficult to fish. I also do spinning and have devised my own methods for a whole range of different fish, including a range of highly effective end tackles which are extremely successful. I also tie my own saltwater flies, which I can provide training in, and make my own lures from scratch, including sculpting the original plugs from which a mould and subsequent lures are then made. Since the mobile signal in Totnes is extremely poor, if you don't get through on 07704 602180, try 01803 863279 instead. It would be my pleasure to help.
